In 2017, a video of a woman named Shemika Campbell doing limbo under a vehicle at a car dealership went viral, which won her the title, ‘Limbo Queen.’ It even caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres who then invited her to perform on the show.

Shemika Campbell, originally from Trinidad and Tobago, always loved singing and dancing. At the age of 8, she moved to Buffalo, New York, where she joined performing art schools and was exposed to different dance forms like ballet. And that’s when she discovered her love for limbo.

When her third cousin, Robert Diaz, saw her limbo, he was immediately impressed and encouraged her to start training as a limbo dancer. “When he first saw how fast I was able to develop the skill and be able to limbo like that he was like, “We can’t let this go to waste.””

At the time she was already performing limbo with a band when the morning talk show, “Live! With Regis and Kelly” contacted her to perform Limbo without touching the bar or her back touching the floor, to which she agreed. She was just 18 years old and managed to set Guinness World Record for lowest height for a bar at 8.5 inches, right on that one show!

Shemika soon gained publicity and people began noticing her after watching her videos. At that point, she had also performed in America’s got talent which was held in 2011. In 2016, she gained a second Guinness World Record in Beijing for performing limbo at the farthest distance, under 12 inches.

In 2015, Shemika was called to perform limbo under a car, holding a tray, for a car dealership video-advertisement. And although she didn’t gain any Guinness World Record for being flexible enough to successfully performing limbo under a car, it forever gained her the title that people now recognise her by - “The Limbo Queen.”

She also appeared on Ellen DeGeneres show, and can proudly say that it has been checked-off from her list of achievements.
