Is the Noah’s Ark Story of the Abrahamic texts (the Tanakh, the Old Testament and the Qur’an) a reference to the Epic of Gilgamesh? The Epic of Gilgamesh is a lengthy poem which dates back to ancient Mesopotamia and tells the tale of Gilgamesh (who ruled around 2700 BC) - an ancient King of Uruk who is believed by historians to have been real.

In the Epic, the character of Utnapishtim is informed by the gods that mankind will be exterminated because of its rowdiness and that Utnapishtim should “save his soul” by building a boat. Sound familiar? It is that interesting.
