Origins of chess are in India. Did you know?

Did you know that chess has roots in India? Though the modern game of chess is established worldwide, it is widely believed that it (as well as other variants of it, such as the Chinese game xiàngqí) comes from the ancient-Indian game of Chaturanga. 

The chess pieces are largely the same in Chaturanga, though there is an elephant piece instead of a Bishop. What’s that interesting is that the game spread worldwide over thousands of years!
