Deadliest animal in Africa is Hippopotamus. Did you know?

 

Lions? Nope. Elephants? Nah. Snakes? Get real. Crocodiles? Almost. The deadliest animal (not including mosquitos) to humans in Africa is the hippopotamus's, which kills hundreds of people per year in Africa. 

What is that interesting is that they are also known as facultative carnivores, meaning that though often seen as herbivores/vegetarian, they will eat animals from time to time if they feel like it. Sounds like your mate giving up meat for a new year’s resolution.
