Jonathan the Tortoise is still alive and kickin’. Did you know?

If ever you are feeling old, remind yourself that Jonathan the Tortoise is still alive and kickin’. The Seychelles giant tortoise, hatched in 1832, turned 193 years old in 2025 and remains by far the oldest living mammal. He has lived through the end of slavery, the rise and fall of empires, the World Wars and so much more. That interesting is the fact that the Island of St Helena, where Jonathan resides, was home to Napoleon Bonaparte just 11 years prior to Jon’s hatching!
