Mahatma Gandhi met Charlie Chaplin in London, 1931. Did you know?
Two enormously famous and historical figures you never knew met? Mahatma Gandhi and Charlie Chaplin, of course! Gandhiji was in London for a visit in 1931 and invited Chaplin to meet him, which the latter did. What’s that interesting is that Chaplin is reported to have been ignorant on the topic of Gandhi’s movement, though was deeply moved by the future Father of the Indian Nation and his pacifism - this possibly inspired his 1940 satirical film, The Great Dictator.
